Tips for a Healthy Flock Using ACV and Oregano
As you know, this has been a stressful week for my flock. Losing three of their valuable members to a predator attack is nothing short of traumatizing.
The flocks been acting “off” ever since. They’re laying their eggs in odd places, won’t go in the coop at night, and just general out of short-ness. They’re clearly stressed and with good reason.
There’s more to helping them get over this traumatic event than just reinforcing the coop. Stress can bring with it so many health issues it’s important to be one step ahead.

Adding Apple Cider Vinegar to their water container is one of the best things you can do for your flock. (If you’ve been struggling with mites, lice, sick chickens, extra poopy fluff butts, or just want more information on how to keep a flock in tiptop shape be sure to keep reading!)
Apple cider vinegar is essential to keeping their pH levels in balance, boost their immune system which is important when they’re feeling stressed, and even keeps lice and mites away! Having your chickens ingest Apple cider Vinegar has been found to help prevent lice and mites due to the oil leaking from their pores and thus detering the pests! Isn’t that cool?!
Adding a little in their water every day goes a long way. 1 mL per Chicken per day is all it takes and the health benefits are astounding!! I usually pour about 2 tablespoons into their large water container and call it good.

We all have it in our gardens right now so this is a quick, easy, and free of cost no brainer! Adding a few oregano leaves to their water helps build a strong immune system and helps prevent against common chicken illnesses. A few fresh leaves or a drop of oil added consistently in their water is such a game changer!
The benefits really are endless, I encourage you to go do more research and learn all about these natural medicines!!🌿🍎
**There’s a question over whether adding ACV to metal containers is safe. Though I’ve not found anything online saying you can’t add a TBS to large metal container of water (I’ve been adding it to mine for years with no bad effects) I’m not an expert on metal and don’t want to give incorrect information so to that id encourage you to do your research and figure out whats best for your flock. A common misconception is that it will cause your metal container to rust…that is not true (it actually helps prevent rust). If you're at all unsure about it you can use a plastic container or add some ACV to one of their favorite snacks. 🍀💚🌿
