Did you know chicken’s will kill mice and rats?! Don’t let their size fool you, they’re fierce little dinosaurs who will protect their young and guard their grounds from invaders! That’s one more point in favor of house chickens, am I right?!

You guys remember Lucky, the chick I saved from certain death 4 separate times?! Well here he is, all grown up!! Isn’t he a handsome boy? I may be slightly bias though based on how close we became in his first week of life. I swear this guy has 9 lives and already used up at least 4 of them.

These are some crazy times my friend! I wanted to share a couple of my favorite “Self Care” steps that help get me through. Whether it’s a rough season of life or just a weird day these always help me, every time!

I love watching plants grow and thrive! It’s a beautiful visual of what we as humans can also achieve when we are willing to grow.

There’s nothing like bringing home tiny fuzzy chicks from the feed store! Oh the excitement and joy! But all that fun quickly goes away come the day you introduce the new members to the rest of the flock.

Integration can be dangerous to the new additions and downright stressful for everyone involved— including us. But it doesn’t have to be! I have a sure proof plan that will smoothly integrate the new members into your flock and I can guarantee that not a single peck, fight or drop of blood will be shed. Here’s how I do it….

My spring garden is officially up and running and I couldn’t be more excited! I planted the seeds a few months back and they have really taken off since! I feel like an imposter calling myself a “gardener” being that its only my second go to this whole gardening thing but some beautiful weather mixed with water got this garden growing! I’m over here doing my happy dance and thankful the garden is off to a solid start!

As you know, this has been a stressful week for my flock. Losing three of their valuable members to a predator attack is nothing short of traumatizing. The flocks been acting “off” ever since. They’re laying their eggs in odd places, won’t go in the coop at night, and just general out of short-ness. They’re clearly stressed and with good reason.

Did you know chickens can count? One study from the University of Padova demonstrates how chicks can recognize difference in values. Researchers placed three objects behind a screen and only two behind another. The chicks would consistently go towards the screen with more objects behind it.

What is “Still Roost”? — a place to be still and find rest when you need peace. That’s what this blog is all about! Discovering my “happy place”. Finding that sanctuary that quiets the noise and brings calmness and peace to my life. Even when what’s happening outside of it’s safe wall’s is painful and destructive.
